Corporation Tax and the Company Tax Return (CT600) – computed, filed and on time.
Every UK Ltd must file a CT600 with HMRC each year together with its accounts and tax computation – even with a loss or nil profit. The tax itself is due before the return.
Corporation Tax rates
- 19% on profits up to £50,000 (small profits rate).
- 25% on profits above £250,000 (main rate).
- Marginal relief applies in between; thresholds are divided between associated companies.
Deadlines
- Payment: 9 months and 1 day after the end of the accounting period.
- CT600 filing: within 12 months of the end of the accounting period.
- Companies with profits over £1.5m pay by quarterly instalments.
HMRC charges £100 for a late return, another £100 after three months and tax-geared penalties for longer delays, plus interest on late payment.
